I would really like to know the weights of your BLRWs. I want to be able to have it all Laughing I want to show my birds for their beauty as well as meeting the SOP weight. I was keeping track of a lot of my birds weights some time ago when trying to decide which breed I wanted to raise. I knew that my extras would be going into the freezer and I wanted something with a bit of meat on it if that was going to be the case. When I discovered the BLRWs I knew that was the bird I wanted to work with. So now about those weights. Only two of my breeds met the SOP, the Chanteclers and the Araucanas. I found my Araucana roo horribly aggressive and he found a date with the chopping block and the Chanteclers just weren't my thing. That is when I found the BLRW and fell in love! Yes I want a good comb on my 'eye candy' but I like my 'eye candy' to taste good too Shocked while helping to bring out the best in them in the best way I can. Soooooooo, I want to compare my hens and roos etc to yours. The SOP for a Wyandottes in general says pullet 5 1/2 lbs cockerel 7 1/2lbs hen 6 1/2lbs and cock 8 1/2lbs. Do yours measure up? just curious here. I may have to change my name to curiousMonika lol!

Tell you the truth I have never weighed mine Monika, I know picking the rooster and some hens up they are a nice size, most are 1 year or older with a couple younger ones in there.
If I have time before my flock leaves next weekend I will try to get some weights on them for you.
I find they are the best ones I have for weights with any of my Wyandotte's, nice stocky girls. I will try to weigh the pair of SLW I have as well.

Thanks so much HR, I really would like to know if mine are in the right ballpark, comparatively speaking. Thanks for taking the time to do the weighing. I will post mine as well! Very Happy

Hen #3, is 1 year old, weighs 5 3/4 lbs
Hen #4 is a pullet, about 9 months old, weighs 5 lbs
Rooster #1 is 1 year old, weighs 6 1/2 lbs

I will weigh next week when I have the energy to carry a scale out to the coop. Too tired this week!
