Summary:
The first annual Vermilion Fair/Canadian Heritage Breeds Poultry Show, held July 25, 2015, was a success, with 24 Alberta-based exhibitors entering a total of 157 bird entries (including 8 entries for the pen of three open class, a nod to the fair’s traditional open chicken show, which typically saw locals enter a pen of broilers or layers, with occasional heritage breeds entered as well) and 24 egg show entries (15 plates of eggs, 9 decorated eggs). There was a terrific variety of birds, with overall great quality, judged by Rico Sebastianelli. We saw thousands of people come through the building which was great exposure for the poultry fancy, answered many questions about poultry, did a little bird swapping, and had some great opportunities to sit and visit. Exhibitors were able to take in the 109th annual Vermilion Fair, including the midway and rides, agricultural equipment displays, chariot racing, modified tractor pulls, many food options, heavy and light horse and livestock shows, petting zoo, tradeshow, craft, art, and produce entries in the exhibit hall, musical entertainment, mounted cowboy shooting, and more. We are already looking forward to next year’s show – mark your calendars for July 30, 2016!
