I'd love to find a Canadian breeder of the silver double laced Barnevelders. If anyone knows one, I'd love to be pointed in the right direction!

I think it's a good opportunity to bring in some new blood. I'm willing to pay higher prices for quality stock.

I am still so shocked at what the price tag is on some of these birds, and I agree with you Appway. I am not looking for an argument either. But ya, I'm sure there are Canadian breeders of some of what is coming across. Probably shouldn't even bother posting this but am anyways. Guess some people just want to have these birds that are not available in Canada in Canada. I am so up in the air with this post. have an awesome day, CynthiaM.

I think the key here is to order the specific breeds that are NOT easily available in Canada and to find the others locally.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Briarwood and Triple F (I think) offering some of those rarer birds to Canadians next year or the year after.

The only problem I see with bringing in the rarer and designer breeds is actually finding someone else in Canada who has them and theirs are not GreenFire lines too.

I don't think briarwood posted this to get our comments on why we should or shouldn't import from Greenfire, she is simply asking if anyone else wants to order with her and she will help with transport.

Yep!

It's an offer to help bring birds up into Canada. You can take it or leave it, just putting it out there. We often whine and complain that there isn't xyz breed in Canada, or it's so hard to get birds here, etc etc. This is a chance for those who are interested to have it cost less and become a lot more convenient. However, as this has been the response I don't think I'm interested in catering to the needs of others on this. We will go ahead with our order as planned, because we see the value in importing new bloodlines OF breeds that are already IN Canada, as well as the fun of importing new breeds as well. Greenfire has added to their lines from overseas of a few breeds already in Canada.

A bit disappointed in some of the responses, to say the least.

Authentic, you can make the Silver double laced Barnevelders very easily yourself and there are a ton of breeders that have made them in the USA and people working on them in Canada. Most off those breeders are not running their poultry hobby as a business and do not advertise or are online a bunch.
Greenfire is owned by a group of laywers that advertise really well, but they have not been breeding those birds very long. Not to say you won't get quality, but you will have to buy many in order to end up with something you can actually sustain. And at those prices that is pretty difficult to justify doing that.

Briarwood, I think it is great that you're importing new lines and are offering the opportunity to others. Super generous! I am just not ready to take advantage of it this year. Hope you do another run next year!

No Joe I'm not mad at your post, yes you can get black copper marans for less then $49 within Canada. I'm just tired of the stagnant Canadian BCM blood. It's hard to find breeders in the USA that have both quality stock and the willingness to import to Canada. That's all Smile

That was my thought as well - I would need so many of them to make a decent go of it, it's just not doable for me by April 1/8th. It would have to be something I save up for.
