This is our first time with Royal palms.  I thought for sure we had a boy and a girl when younger but now the one I thought was a male just doesn't have a big snoud like the bronze.  They're about the same age and bronze males definitely look like males with a definite size difference while the Royal has me wondering if maybe I'm wrong.

Am I correct in thinking they are a pair?

Thanx Appway I was just starting to doubt myself since the palm just didn't seem to be as blatantly showy of a male as the bronze.  Seriously having a blonde moment calling them bourbons they're bronze! ( insert smiley smacking itself in the head ).

Guess I must of had bourbon on the brain drunken

I found that when they are young they can be hard to identify cause they look so similar for so long. But I think you have a pair too. I love the Royals.

I heard Bourbon heals what ales yah, Laughing

Sometimes the younger toms don't want to display when there is an older dominant tom around. I had a few days of confusion with my Blue Slates and Beltsvilles trying to work out who were toms and would be going to the butcher. There are always a few that are suspect but don't display. I find the leg thickness is helpful if the bird isn't displaying - toms have much thicker legs from quite a young age.

Ok Thanx They probably weren't showing for you because they didn't want to become dinner Heda LOL

Probably needed to feed hubby bourbon last night when I unloaded round bale and the ground wasn't as frozen as I'd thought so got his precious truck stuck in the muck good (real good Embarassed  )

The palms are about 2wks younger than the bronze.  I bought them as poults and the bronze I hatched out.  I ended up with 4 male bronze and 1 female Ugh but I kept their mom and a couple boys will become dinner if we start having issues but so far everything has been calm in the turkey pen they probably heard me say how good their dad was LOL  I had waaay too many splayed leg poults hatch this year so I'm hoping new breed will help add hybrid vigour to my turkey (dinners)

The legs, head gear and showing is what had me thinking I had a pair but noticed the bronze girl has bigger legs and head gear than the male palm so thought maybe I just had a runty palm girl making the other girl look like a male.  I also haven't seen palm boy show in forever but maybe he knows it's safer to not show Smile  Palms seem to be smaller and easier going which I like.  They are pretty but the bronze feathers in the sunshine is lovely.

Nice looking birds Serjay.
Do any of your adult toms get aggressive with
you?
My Blue Slate Tom has quite the attitude of late.
He has nailed me a few times so we have little
chats about who's the boss but a few days later
he will do it again.

Beep I got them locally from a breeder we've got most of my sons chickens from.  I won't be selling turkeys, any we hatch we'll grow, watch them strut and eventually eat.  If you're still looking in spring I can put you in contact with breeder though and see if its a different line than yours Smile

No agressive problems Karona.  The father of these young bronze would bug my youngest son so while we ate Thanksgiving dinner he piped up and said "well he won't be chasing me on my bike anymore"  LOL  For some reason the female turkey decided she loved my little boy which would get the Tom challenging him.  There was never an incidence and for the most part it was just humorous.  I got some hilarious photos this spring/summer Smile

The palms seem to be even more easy going but when we let all the birds out in the yard the palms for some reason had a hate on for eldest sons silver spangled hamburgs.  Never bothered with any other chickens.  Wondering if its because they have similar feather colouring??  Hamburgs can fly like  crazy so turkeys couldn't do more than chase them Smile  Bronze are always always underfoot and never ever seem to get tired of thumping and showing but other than being annoying as we trip over them there's no issues.  Palms seem flightier and less social but maybe it's because the bronze are bigger, might change things when a couple bronze boys are gone.
