YEsterday was the annual fair parade in Selkirk. There is a rodeo and
horse show and the usual ag diplays etc. The saddest thing I have ever
seen was in the parade. The selkirk ringette club had the girls walking
. One girl was lagging behind and was texting on her phone! She could
not put it down long enough to walk the parade route. That is sad

I have a computer and pay as you go cell phone . Most 12 year
olds have blackberries now . What is the world coming to .. sigh Am I
the only one who thinks that is very wrong?
I don't text, I do not need to know what everyone is doing every minute
of the day. I like to talk to people either on the phone or in person.
To make this chicken related . My lone hatchery buff orpington is
setting on 7 eggs. They are not hers but belong to my barred rock hen .
Here is hoping there is chickies int someof them at least.

Geri, I totally agree with you. That is very sad to see that kind of disrepect exhibited.

On a more positive note, best of luck with your broody!

The sad thing is that somewhere a parent did not apply a boot to the backside of said Ringette Marcher. Now I'm not saying that parents are entirely responsible for everything their kids do. However, there are times and places when going toe to toe, head to head, and WRESTLING that damn phone out of your kids hand most certainly IS appropriate!

Bad manners are bad manners are bad manners. In front of her community and fellow team members, there is NO EXCUSE IN THE WORLD for this sort of crap behaviour!

I hope at the end of the march some enraged mother with a ringette stick used it to whack that stinking phone into the next county. ANd apply a correction to a backside. Daughter and I have done battle over this...I am not above utterly destroying a cell phone. And my kid knows it! But you are right, Rasilon, things have become very sad. Pathetic, really.

Monkey see Monkey do it seems these days ! I see it every where and my own ten year old is asking for a phone ? NOT ! I can't stand them myself and I won't have one with me anywhere I go ...............sinse when did life get so busy that people need to be able to get a hold of you where ever you are ? Pathetic is about all that I can say ! And I do inderstand they have been helpful in some situations ,but I still won't have one ! They should have gone and taken the kid out and not let her back in ! Parents should be embarresed to say the least !

I find myself anxious without my phone and that has always bothered me. I think, however, seeing children lost in cell phones/facebook/youtube and so on is a tragedy on a different level completely. I've seen less-than-2 year olds completely adept at cell phone use, getting to their own baby apps and so on, and it makes me want to cry.

Put that kid in the dirt, let him/her roll around in the grass and eat bugs! For older kids, go sit under a tree and read a book or raise a chicken or something. I've been without my phone for a week now (told Sasktel to shove it) and I've just gotten to the point where I'm not anxious about not having it. It's nice. Really nice.

Had a neice visit a couple of years ago. She was only there for a few minutes and we hadn't seen her in years but she still couldn't pull her head away from that phone. Oh well.

I have a coworker who could have run over one. She was going slow through a parking lot and this guy was walking straight at her. She finally put the car in park and waited. He walked right into her hood. Guess he was some surprised.

I would have laid on the horn just when he reached me. Laughing

"The Media is the Message" I recently received a link to this quote on wikipedia and have been pondering it since. This media it seems has changed us in not so good ways. I remember when I was young I needed to just know where my friends might be, walk and look for them, sometimes not finding them, other times there were uncanny moments of intuition and coincidence.
I recently watched a program which suggested these medias are pushing us towards hive mind mentality.

Amen! A certain dh cannot live without his whatever-he-has, but my simple one seldom gets turned on, much less make it out of the house. I have already told my kids I am never texting them, the phone or e-mail will have to do. Besides, knowing the penchant chickens have for shiny and plastic things, as soon as it came into sight they would be going for it Very Happy Wonder what a teen would do if he/she wandered into some free-ranging chickens and they all suddenly started jumping for that nifty looking phone Razz

and let's not limit it to teens. I know someone who has started bringing books to work because they're tired of being filler conversation with coworkers in between the texts at lunch break. Grown adults won't even finish their sentence when the phone vibrates, immediately back to texting. Very rude.

I have a phone for MY convenience and safety. The line is drawn there. It is for me and not for others to call me whenever they want to chat. I actually have people angry with me that I only turn it on when I want to use it or am expecting a call. Even my parents gave me heck that I did not return my messages. Messages? I didn't know you could leave messages! There must be thousands of messages backed up on that thing. Stupid machine. My world would be better wtithout it.

That would be my way of looking at them ! I can't imagine how many people have been killed by being on there cell phone when they should have had there attention on say the road ? Plus I can't help but wonder what all that info is doing floating around the air ? must be having some sort of effect on our enviroment some how ? someone said it was what is effecting the bee population ? to many microwaves floating around is harming them ?.......who knows !
