New Forum Categories

It was brought to my attention that we need some new categories. So give me your opinions on what we need and I will see what I can do about adding them.
Also a lot of information is getting put into the General discussion category that is very useful information, or advise needed categories, if we can try to put them in the right areas then it makes people searching for answers have an easier time finding all this useful information, that will otherwise just be lost in the GD area.

I am very bad for just putting things in the GD area. I will try to be better, I promise.

How about a FREE section? It could be free livestock or "things"? Just anything FREE.

What about splitting upcoming events into Upcoming Events and Upcoming SHOWS>
Any event that is not a show would go under upcoming events but SHOWS and events that happen at shows (Like a silent auction) would go under the shows area. This way if someone was trying to look at information about a show, it would be all in one area. As there are only a couple of shows ever on, they would not really overlap either. And if they did it would only be a couple of shows, they already overlap everywhere lese, and once the show is done , the threads would fall to the bottom ans new shows were discussed.
I think it would clean up things a little.

Another catagory would be Upcomming SEMINARS.
Seminars then would have their own area.

I think this would clean up things a fair bit.

I think there is a need for something dedicated to livestock other than birds. There's been quite a few good posts recently on other homestead animals.

Maybe something for gardening?

IMAO there are enough categories already. Maybe when a link to up coming auctions is posted, it should be closed to additional posting. Make it a sticky or something. And once that sale or auction has come and gone, then it can be deleted.
I just think it would make for a quick glance a bit easier because often the original post with all the info of dates and times gets lost!
Then, if people want to ask questions or have other comments to make about said show, auction or sale, they can start up a thread about it and the original "closed" post (sticky) is still at the top of the page.

Incubating, hatching catergory would be great

I did what I could in my shortness of free time today. Let me know what you think and if there are more or if you think something needs changing. I will try to move things to the right categories as I can find the time.

DWD I think the sticky part is a good idea, and I will try to post all new events to the calendar as well to help people to see what is going on each month.

I think the changes made will help keep things more organized.

Conglomerating "useful links" and "useful info" might be a thought?

I think when there is too much to choose from, people get tired of looking for the right category and just go 'General Chatting' and hope for the best. I think some of the specific categories could be lumped into one category. For example I don't think we need a Ducks Wanted, Chickens Wanted and Turkeys Wanted. I think that could be funneled into ONE heading BIRDS WANTED and the poster should use the title line to MAKE THEIR POST CLEAR!

BUt I do like to see other livestock included because many of us have other animals and it's useful to have a place to post about them. I think the addition of new categories is good, but I think there are several that could get squished into one category and it would shorten the list but work just as well.

Yep, the wanteds could all be put into one.

One heading for Livestock wanted and one for Livestock for sale.

I agree with Uno. Finding the balance between too few, and too many categories is what we must strive for. Too far one way on either end of the scale will be detrimental.

Too many, and it can appear muddled. Too few, and much valuable information will get lost as it gets bumped.
