I do own the new 2010 Standard of Perfection. But, I have found through alot of reading and the expereince I am working on that the older breeding books from the early 1900's will give you alot more information, know how, and explaination on things then the standard. If you already have the other knowledge then a SOP will be great. For those people starting out and trying to learn, they have to learn the basic's too and in that respect there are better resources then the SOP.

Oh how interesting it would be to look through those old books! That is very cool to have acquired these. Do the old SOPs include pictures? I do like all the art work in my 2010 edition. It really helps me to have a visual aid in addition to the written description.

2010 edition. Might be worth getting the '98 version for the Schilling artwork. Is the 1923 Chantecler drawing in there? We wants it, Precious.

Tara- It would be very nice if the APA or the APA could give away copies of the standard and as you probably know I have been a district director for many years in both clubs. For the first printing of the new Standard APA it cost the APA about 40,000 dollars I don't think a club with less than 3000 members in North America who really only ask a small amount for membership can afford to give a book like this away. Same goes for the ABA

I think it's wonderful that the club works hard to keep the Standard current and while not everyone has the means to purchase one I would rather mentor people and let them use my copy until such time as they can afford one and hopefully should that happen they will get more out of the book and use it to it's fullest extent.
