Well Glenn, the ones banded red are from Meyers hatchery, the yellow banded ones are from Ideal hatchery and the blue banded ones are from my flock which includes birds from different bloodlines the majority being Ideal and Performance. I remember you saying that you would like birds from different lines to have a bigger genetics base so I banded them to show which were which although by the differing body types you can tell which ones are closer related.

Wow - what a great selection. Do you think I could get a mix like that in the spring Ethan?

OK, Glen, almost clear, almost, almost. Let me describe what I am understanding. Milkmaid hatched out 22 chicks from their own buckeye stock. They got eggs from me and they hatched nicely. Of the chicks that hatched from my eggs, (11 I think you said out of 12), the dog got all but three. Now you purchased the 22 from the Milkmaid farm that they hatched from their own stock, and they are 20 weeks old. You have lost a chick to mysterious death and you had to put one down because it was not well, a third is in the hospital. I am wondering what your chicks have, considering that they are so old, hope that you get to the bottom of it and no more become ill, that is not good, 20 weeks is a substantial time to be raising birds to lose them

You think they still have the 3 that survived the hatch from my eggs.

Now getting down to bare bones, you actually don't have any from my stock, that is right? I must be completely clear in my mind about things, smiling, just my way, any confusion and I must always get to the bare basic facts and have them straight, smiling again. Sorry for any confusion I may be causing, but I am still just a little confused Shocked All please have a wonderful and great day, CynthiaM.

Oh man, this is becoming very long and convaluted......

I hatched out buckeye eggs last October from Ethan (Chantecler eh?). They birds only began to lay in the spring of this year, April or so. It takes buckeyes in my yard about 27-28 weeks to begin to lay.....

My buckeyes have only been laying since this spring. I have never kept the buckeye breed prior to this.

I sent 14 eggs to (yes it was 14 according to my records) to Grande Prairie, pick up at Greyhound.

Milkmaid and her Husband would have hatched out those eggs of mine on approximately 22 of August, just like almost 2 months ago.

They could not possibly have had any of the birds that came from my stock be of any age to mate, the only buckeyes from my stock would now be approximately 2 months old, already mentioned that.

There has been some kind of mix up somewhere, in someone's mind, not sure where to say, but someone has something not right.

I think that Milkmaid (is her Husband Vair 2 on forum, not sure of his handle) must have adult buckeyes from somewhere else. Certainly and impossibility that they would have had them from me.

So....whose line is it anyways, smiling. What a convaluted post and really need to get to the bottom of things. I would suspect that Milkmaid and Hubby got the birds, eggs, whatever they received from cbrookelly, or Ethan, but absolutely I only sent them hatching eggs on July 27, just past.

Is this becoming very weird or what....let's figure things out, I am always in for a mystery solved. Beautiful and wonderful days, CynthiaM.

I guess I owe you Cynthia and everyone else an apology for my hasty words. I just contacted Vair2 and got my story straight. My buckeyes are not originating from your lines Cynthia. I guess sometimes things happen so quickly and all the information is hard to absorb and retain in memory. I will leave it to the latest member joining the forum to explain further the source of my buckeyes and correct any misleading statements I have made, if they wish to. Again, my apologies for wasting your valuable reading time.

So, reneggaide, your chickens came from a cross between a two year old Ideal roo, a 3 year old Ideal hen, and a 1 year old Performance hen.

As an aside, Cynthia, we got 9 chicks from your eggs, but we only managed to mark 8, one got into the mix with our others before we could mark it. (We have a lot to learn about breeding, keeping track of who's who, to start)

Wonderful, mystery solved, and I love to have full understanding of things. Rennegaide, do not feel bad, pleeeeeze, there is no intention to cause you to ever feel that you cannot speak what you think, your mind, or whatever. We all have those mind farts and they make us thing funny things, smiling that big smile. Keep on being you, it is all good. And I am sure that Frostvalley is happier than a pig in you know what, to have this little mystery all cleared up, I don't think there was ever any bad feelings on his part either.

Now!!! Getting back to the origin of this topic.....

Of those that keep buckeyes, do you find that they are laying machines, as I do? Mine still, and it is getting so dark and cold these days, are pumping out one egg a day. Mentioned I am not adding any extra light this year to see if they keep on laying in the dim days of winter, a good experiment. Have a wonderful and great day, CynthiaM.
