As you may or may not know, I am a novice mycologist (mushroom hunter) and I am looking for more practice identifying mushrooms, and perhaps finding some good "spots" to harvest edible species in the future.
There are a variety of habitats edible mushrooms can be found in, and up until now I have stuck mainly to the White Spruce / Aspen forests in the Kananaskis area. With a baby on board now, I find it a bit more difficult to take her drudging through the forest.
So I thought I would ask the peeps here if anyone has some land near calgary where they wouldn't mind having me come out and try and find some mushrooms.
You would not have to come searching with me, but could tag along if it was something that interests you. If I found anything good, and you are brave enough to eat the harvest, I would be happy to share what I have found.
Pastures are a great place to find several edible species, as well as moist wooded areas. Many acreages have both of these habitats which doubles my chances of finding different species! Areas that have recently had forest fires are also fertile for mushrooms!
So if you are around Calgary, and you don't mind me poking around your land, please let me know...even if you haven't noticed any mushrooms...because you often don't see them until you are looking for them!
Thanks in advance guys!
