Working outside yesterday and stopped to pull a weed out of a flowerbed. Shook the dirt off the roots and then stooped to pull some smaller weeds at the base. That's when I discovered that there was a hornet nest right there. Must have had my hand right next to the opening. They only got me once but it was on a tender spot. Ache is finally pretty much gone.

So I figure that, based on yesterday's observations, I have a 100% chance of getting stung while weeding (ie: I weeded once yesterday and got stung once). Even if I give a 10% margin of error which, I think, is quite generous, the statistics are still pretty grim.

Lesson learned. I'll never weed again.

A sample size of 1 gives no degrees of freedom for statistical testing, and so no basis for assessing either reliability of, or confidence interval for, your probability estimate. . . sorry, I just couldn't help myself.

Hmmm

So, according to my trusty Internet Statistics Calculator, if I pull a weed tonight and don't get stung...

My future chances of getting stung while weeding range from about -20% to 120%.

Good Gawd! It's worse than I thought! I could have 120% percent chance of being stung while weeding! This means that they probably won't even wait until I weed!

Mind you, if I get stung the second time (I could make it happen if I weed in the same place) my chances of getting stung while weeding range from about 86% to 113%.

I should work for Stats Canada.

Hey Fowler, You and I must have taken math by the same teacher. I tried to help with dishes once but broke a dish so I figured that I couldn't afford to help anymore. That basic principle of math seems to keep working over and over on a multitude of things. Thanks for reminding me why life is so grand.

It depends, If Fowler was working for him/herself then he or she is not covered but if he or she was picking the weed to give to the chicken then he or she was working for the chicken and may be covered.

Yep, I'm edumacated.

Had intro stats but that was years ago so, as the saying goes, I know just enough to be dangerous.
