Could a year and a half old non vaccinated hen get mareks?? Or could she have something else?
I apologize in advance for the over dose of information.
She was fine yesterday but this morning she was stumbling around and limping according to my mother when I got home about six hours later, she is still stumbling somewhat and when she goes to preen she almost falls over.

Yesterday I cleaned out the coop fully scrubbed the walls with bleach and sprinkled DE and Sevin on the roosts, floor and basically on any surface that didn't run away, I am using straw as bedding this time around. Until yesterday I had not noticed that the chickens had access to straw that was covered in mold. They have use of an old horse paddock of ours that has some random bushes one of which is Snowberries that are toxic if ingested, I have never seen the birds eating the berries but I have seen them eating the leaves. Now she had not been drinking I think, as one of the birds pooped in the water some time last night or this morning. When I changed the water she came over and drank a lot. Could it be anything other than mareks and if so any ideas?

Thank you everyone

I'm not sure what might cause this, Alyssa. It's not too likely Marek's would hit at that age. I hope she's better soon.

The toxins in the straw mold could cause paralysis-like symptoms. DE is bad for the respiratory system as well.

Not sure what the causes, but on other forums have read of birds getting sick after a pen is cleaned, especially when there is a crust that is broken.

Selenium deficiency can also cause Merek's like symptoms.  And selenium works with vitamin e and vitamin b's. Selenium is not added to most feeds, and vita e and b degrade very quickly in the food, in 3-4 weeks after manufacture - a deficiency in any one can cause merek's like symptoms.  A quick check to see if this might be the cause is this..get human grade selenium, take 1/8 of a 200 mg tab and grind it up, mix it in 1 gallon waterer, add human grade multi b vitamin capsule - pop the capsule with a little nip of scissors on top, squeeze it in and mix it all well.  Then take a vita e vitamin capsule, and AFTER flipping the waterer over to drinking mode, drizzle a capsule ontop of the water in the drinking tray - it will form a film and cover the water.  If it's selenium/vita e/vita b deficiency, you will usually see almost immediate results, within 8-12 hours.  You can also take a vita e or a cod liver oil capsule and squeeze it in the hens beak - again, within 12 hours you will see improvement.  It won't hurt the birds, but will tell you a quick story if it is this.
