I am very happy with my two new groups of turkeys...they have settled in nicely.  I have a beautiful trio of Beltsvilles, and a trio of sweetgrass.  They are beefy, healthy and am super happy with them.

2 days after the Beltsvilles arrived, these guys showed up....

I think there are two flocks, one with 13 in it, one with 11.  It sounds like a hunters dream around here right now, though it's not so nice at 430 at am to hear them start turkey shenanigans. They even try to use the gates - how polite.

I keep looking at these bad boys and thinking easter is right around the corner.... Smile

Could you hunt or collect the eggs of the feral turkeys on Vancouver Island?

Yes to both hunting and eggs. They are not protected and are an introduced species...many/most consider them pests. Regular laws of hunting apply of course. Some people do pen the girls, let them raise a brood, keep the brood and then let the mom go and keep the babes for food. Every fall there are a few trucks full of feral turkeys headed to slaughter.

They sure are beautiful.  Smile I wish we had more wild turkeys around here...may have to get a few domestic turks and try and lure some wild ones in!

Get one hen that doesn't like the boy you matched her with, and you will draw in the ferals!!! Smile I now have a second flock that have come to visit. I only know as the boys are slightly different colour, and mr. gimpy isn't in the group...
