now what gives?

I am not sure when i can refer to myself as not new to chickens...but still feel that I am... (now really bashful about punctuation)..i write like i talk...ramble on
So...Cynthia turned me on to this site...and it is so great.  There are people who have tons of knowledge who do not mind sharing this knowledge... There are people who ramble, opinions are shared, and i guess some opinions are not appreciated... i see pottery, quilts, baking, chickens, dogs.  I get glimpses into others lives.  feel the pain when those i care about lose loved ones.
I found a facebook site Backyard chickens..and thought it was ok-then left for a while because it seemed a little "light" in content.  When i revisited it about a month later; there were people bashing other people, and swearing and telling bad chicken jokes just to say potty words... Many people left; me included.  Found another facebook page "Canadian Mother Cluckers"..pretty good, similar to this but less comraderie.
I like this group of people.  I like that everyone is different.  I like that some ramble, some educate, and others just chime in..  I like that when i have a problem, i get all sorts of people helping me who have years of experience that when i finally catch up, they will have many more again.
I admit, i have no idea what moderating is about... but what i do know is that places need to be inclusive.  They need to take the personal out of it, and just let people have a voice.  There is a huge amount of chicken content here.
I think at this point I need some rules..because i don't see anything that some have done any different than what others have done.  So what is it that they do that makes them be banned or suspended or what ever....
I would hate to see this place die...I hate to see people unhappy....I am never happy if i know people are uncomfortable..
My people are leaving!..there exclaimation mark!..and another!
If you don't like the rambling...don't participate in that conversation.
Are others complaining about some members, and what things are posted?..is that where this comes from?
What are the rules?

Perhaps it is a secret-i don't like secrets....i like things out in the open so they can be discussed.
Moderation-hidden i don't envy you....or do I?..really, i have no idea what you do...
Can i help? alleviate the burden?  What can we do to save this site without silencing our participants?
Do you have to pay for an address?..does this cost?

You can get free forums, don't cost a thing. The problem comes with the forums have advertising to pay for your use, those ads make some members unhappy so we had some generous donators pay forward a couple years of ad free forum.

The problem I think with this forum is there is no rules, when I made it my plan was people could moderate themselves. And some can and some can't.

It is moderating that keeps a forum in line, stops the bashing and the poor humor that turns people away. And it requires a lot of reading, even if there are certain post you have no interest in you have to read them to make sure everyone is doing what is proper. When writing on an online forum something can be taken out of context very quickly, and turn ugly. You yourself have explained this when you talk about the face book groups you have left because of it.

As for adding more moderation that is not what I want or need. I was a moderator on the other site, had an administrator undermining my decisions or me as a moderator not liking what the administrator was doing, it causes more grief than it is worth.
What this site might need is an outside moderator, someone that is not personally involved and can just have a cut and dry decision, but ultimately it all falls back on me anyways, if a moderator makes a call members don't like you know it will be me getting all the mail about it anyways.

I try not to say anything that I wouldn't say if they were sitting in front of me.

You don't want a lot of mods and rules. Big hassle and who is supposed to do it for free? I made a few posts on a big chicken site once and didn't go back because the rules were so numerous I knew I'd never keep them straight.

For myself, I prefer the atmosphere of sitting in a big coffee shop with people chatting. Occasionally a couple of people may argue and someone gets up and leaves. Not perfect but it's better than sitting in a crowded auditorium, constantly monitored, with security standing around ready to jump on you if you speak out of turn.

But, if Hidden finds it to be too much hassle and shuts it down, I do understand. Perhaps someone will start up another. It won't be me though. I have an idea as to what is involved so I'll just spend my time doing something less frustrating, like herding cats.

Perhaps a facebook group as an additional place to gather in case WCPS goes down temporarily or permanently?

I'm not on here every minutes of every day but when I am it is amazing how quickly discussions take place, people get upset and leave or whole threads are deleted. I'll come on in the evening, people have left, threads are deleted and unless someone I know tells me what's happened all I can see is the dust.

But that's the way the rest of life works too. The only behaviour I have control of is my own.

Like Hedda Gobbler I'm not here all the time, or contributing as much as I used to, but I do try to check in fairly often. So a person can still get a sense of how and when things go wrong. We have something unique here that I wouldn't want to lose. Hidden River created this forum when ACE was going down hill fast, and she recognized that a place was needed where people could feel comfortable, exchange views and information while not being policed to death. So there are pros and cons to this kind of open forum. It means that sometimes things may be said that hurt others. And when those others start to leave, a decision needs to be made. Hidden made the decision she felt was best - based on her take of the situation. period.
There are already umpteen facebook groups for chicken discussion. Maybe there's always room for one more, I don't know. I'm not a big fan of facebook for any meaningful discussion. It gets too long and convoluted and good luck trying to find a topic 3 or 4 months later. So I won't be spending a lot of time being involved in another fb group. And out of respect for Hidden River and the name she has chosen for this forum, I think it would be a good idea to choose another name for the facebook page. Unless Hidden is endorsing this.
I think right now Hidden needs our support and encouragement to keep WCPS online. As I said this is unique. Where else can you get feedback from poultry judges, specific answers from genetics experts and mounds of excellent advice from some of the most experienced breeders around? This is it.

I agree with KathyS, I was hoping we would band together and keep this forum alive, not create a facebook version of it, but I have joined to see how it all pans out.
I hope people can keep them separate though and not bring problems from the facebook site to this one.

The facebook group is not, I hope, going to replace this group. My intention was that if this site goes down, either temporarily like ACE right now, or permanently, that members will be able to check in via facebook.

I don't plan on doing anything with the facebook group in terms of encouraging discussions and such - it's merely a list.

No danger of replacement from me, I rarely use Facebook. Just mainly have it to be in touch with far flung relatives.

My Ravelry knitting group had a FB page as well. I use both frequently. It seems to work fine.

Oooo Pollywog I have joined Ravelry but don't go there much, would never get off and if I have this much trouble staying off this site then it is a sure sign I'd quit real life and become a cyber-chook-loving-knitting-sewing-geek! Might be too late already. Just occurred to me though, if this site goes flop then I probably won't join another. I think I hit on this one first time and was a good match, Coopslave enabled me   .

I don't spend a ridiculous amount of time on either forum. I check here now and then for new posts and on Rav I pop in and check the 2 threads that I like. The secret to joining any online group is to not take anything seriously. This here be the internet. Everyone is all tough behind their keyboards but in real life they rarely do the idiotic crap they boast about.

Awww, don't put everything on Facebook. I don't use it, no fun when you can't keep up with things for sale, gardening etc.

Well Beings I am blocked by the Admin/Creator of the new facebook Group. I can not join does not matter as I will stay with the Original

In case you missed the point that has already been stated repeatedly, it's simply a list in case this forum crashes like ACE has. People can still get in touch and find out what's happening. It's a contingency plan, not a replacement for this forum. 

If you can't get on, perhaps you should reconsider some of your past behaviour choices and make a few apologies.

What cause I proved a person wrong with what they were spreading on the internet I will keep this group and I would suggest others to also but that is my thoughts

I'm sorry appway, what exactly do you think I was spreading? I did not say anything that was not absolutely true.

And because I doubt he has audio recordings or notarized transcripts, I have actual, truthful e-mails that have already been forwarded to many forum members, including the owners of both ACE and WCPS.

I also have other people in this area with independent knowledge of what appway is denying.

Is that why when I called the Vet they said they had not received a phone call from anyone on it besides me and when I posted that that is when all beings said dissapeared and that there and been nothing reported But anyway I will not run and delete my self from a group
