Is it too hard on 2 year old roosters to be cropped?

The original purpose of dubbing was for cockfighting so they wouldn't be able to grab each others combs in the fight.

Dubbing a two year old would be painful and distressing to the bird and would certainly have a negative impact on his fertility.

I am biased however, as I would never condone dubbing for any reason.

I didn't even know this was a thing until a few days ago. Not something I would choose to do, not a breed that I would choose to show.

I hate it but unfortunately for showing one has to do it. That is why I have been looking for Dutch Bantams and Japanese. Don't have to do it to them

I have chosen NOT to get a specific breed I was looking at based entirely on the fact that they are dubbed.

And this comes from a woman who has no issue docking her puppies.

I should add that although this is not for me I do not make judgement on anyone who does.

I got into the OE as I loved them and then when I got involved with showing them that's when I found out about the dubbing! So will hopefully just show hens or ones that are all ready dubbed when I get them. I have always hate stuff like this -seems any show -horse dog etc they are all just not au-natural

It's an unfortunate practice.... one I would not be comfortable doing or having done.

It is horrible to see badly frostbitten combs and wattles though!

True Heda and when Dubbing Combs is done right it is not bad it can be bloody but they stop pretty fast and some people are against it but it is like tail docking on sheep or be horning on goats and Cattle people dont like it but some of the breeds people own they do it. I hated the day I was Dubbing but when it was done it sure was nice seeing the beautiful clean heads strutting around

Appway, sorry but I prefer not to get into discussions on dubbing, as I see no value in it but Heda has a very good point on how super painful frozen combs and entirely preventable too.
Should Olsoftie have a query regarding her bird she knows how to contact me.

I to don't want to get into a discussion about dubbing as it is controversial, but as some have said I think it is much preferable to frostbite. Often people say they are opposed to dubbing but have roosters with great, big combs that have been terribly frostbitten. In my opinion that is much worse.
