Canadian Heritage Breeds would like to invite individuals passionate and enthusiastic about preserving and educating others about heritage breed livestock to join the Board of Directors.

There are currently 3 open positions on the Board of CHB: Secretary, Treasurer and a Director.

If you are interested in volunteering for one of these positions or would like to find out more please contact one of the current board members of CHB by 3pm Saturday February 15th.

To contact CHB please go to: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

For those that will be in Wetaskiwin this weekend at the NCAPA Show feel free to speak with a board member of CHB directly. Daniel Chappell (President), Kyle Lawrence (Vice President), Kathy Stevenson (Director) and Michelle Sulz (Director) will all be at the show at times throughout the weekend. Please also feel free to reply to this thread by email.

If anyone would like to find out a bit more about CHB and what we are all about, I'd enjoy meeting you and having a chat! This is such an energetic and ambitious group of people who share a common objective - the preservation, growth and overall welfare of heritage breeds. I'll be at the Wetaskiwin show all day Saturday and Sunday. Hope to meet lots of you there!

Can you give us an idea of the time/commitment involved with being a board member? I can't do it (stretched too thin as it is!), but if it doesn't sound too scary, maybe someone else will step up. Smile

That's ok Jennifer, we're all stretched too thin you'd fit right in!

The basic time commitment is one meeting every 6 or so weeks to make decisions and such and helping with as much of our shows, sales, displays, seminars etc. throughout the year as you can, with the expectation being that as much as you can is at least a few of them, especially the big show in November particularly with the national this year.

There are a few other little things along the way...fundraising, bookings, advertising, helping get articles for the newsletter, telling everyone you meet how awesome heritage breeds are, etc, etc.

Hopefully this doesn't sound too overwhelming to everyone, it really isn't all that bad and we have a lot of fun along the way!

CHB is happy to announce that Callum McLeod has volunteered as a Director.

We still have openings for the positions of Secretary and Treasurer and would be happy to provide more information for anyone who may be interested.

How would this work for people in other parts of the country who can't always get to Alberta for the meetings? Are there options?

Yes, there are options for those from farther away and I would suggest talking to Dan (Country Thyme Farm) about how we could make things work both for members and board members from other areas.

I (poplar girl = Michelle, new to the board last fall) join some of the board meeting by phone as its a 4 hour drive for me to central Alberta. Callum is actually going to school in England part of the year.

So far most of CHBs events are central Albeta based simply because that is where our volunteers, including most of the board, that are willing to make the events happen are located. CHB would love to be able to have a stronger presence throughout Canada but for a small group that is fairly new it's a challenge...strong members or groups of members in other areas of Canada could help CHB a great deal!

So if you have a desire to get more involved and you live farther away I would encourage you to contact CHB!
