Hey All!

I have a few Silkies and two of my roosters appear to have different combs. I have sifted through the internet but some of the info is confusing. I was originally told they should have a walnut comb. I have read articles and random forums mentioning a true silkie comb, a mulberry comb, a duplex walnut and a duplex rose comb.

What is the proper Silkie comb and why are there so many variations?

Thanks,
Klassy

They should have a Walnut comb. If you have a standard of perfection it has a picture of the comb types in it.

Ok! Thank you Heather! I have ordered a standard of perfection and it should be arriving by the end of the week! One of these roosters is being picked up and I didn't want to part with the wrong one.

Do they print a new SOP every year?
I ordered the 2010 edition, someone here mentioned it has great pictures.

Klassy chic, Good on you for purchasing a SOP, They come out about every 6-7 years but the new ones just add the new breeds and varieties that have been accepted in the years since the last one was issued and to make minor corrections. Yours will serve you well for many years if it is only Silkies that interest you although a couple new varieties have recently been accepted most notably the Naked Neck variety.

I am glad to hear that! Next will be books on genetics and colors.

I have been playing in the back yard for awhile Laughing but  I think I am ready to get a little more serious about my breeding. I have ordered new breeds this year to try out and make sure I like before I get too much going on.

I am a stay at home mom and with all the room we have out here I figure it is time to help out preserving some of these breeds! It will be an interesting adventure as I know little about genetics and it gets a bit confusing at times. I am hoping a couple good books will set me in the right direction!

Have a great day,
Klassy

I'm not sure, just doing some research.

I like to read the reviews to see what people say about the book.

You can order it directly from the APA if you go to their website or l think Clayton Botkin who sells Bringer incubator's in the Fraser Valley also carries them at a good price.
