We recently completed my other coop project and I wanted to share a few of the highlights with all of you. Smile
Namely the 14 foot long tunnel, aka 'the skywalk'. I am beyond thrilled with the results, and very proud of my husband for all his hard work in making my coop dreams come true. I love you

My smarty pants chickens caught onto using it right away and seem to enjoy skywalkin’

Very clever! Something like this could fix my current problem of ice coming off the roof on my fence.

Just one request.

Please, please, pleeeeeeeze take pictures if a bird gets stuck and you have to crawl in there and get it out!

What a Face HAH! Now that would be an unpleasant task alright. LoL

Fortunately for everyone, we'll never have to go there as the skywalk has handy dandy access panels, just in case...Wink

What a creative idea! And interesting to know how quickly the chickens caught on and got it all figured out.

Oh how lovely, looks like the perfect place to have a child's playhouse, smiling. Got a real kick out of your child in the skywalk. How inventive and how beautiful, thank you for sharing. Have an awesome day, CynthiaM.

This must have taken lots of engineering! It looks very sturdy. Please share the readon you didnt just run it straight out.
I have lots of ideas probably none are correct:
1 this is a 2 story coop and they sre already upstairs
2 you wanted your pen to be back by the shady trees
3 you dont want your chooks scratching around your chocken housr foundations
4 the ground back there was more level
5 you wanted to see how good a carpenter your husband really eas
6 you wanted to mentally stimulate your chickens
7 all of the above!

Smile Thanks guys. I’m ecstatic with how everything turned out. I have to keep pinching myself to make sure I’m not going to wake up. Very Happy

Cynthia, it’s funny you mention it’s a good spot for a playhouse, because that’s exactly what’s going up nearby next summer. This will be the view.

Uno, you wouldn't think things are all that clean now that chickens are loose inside! Laughing At least it's still really bright...

Kathy, I couldn't believe how fast they caught on. I had visions of having to carry chickens inside for a couple nights, but no need thankfully. lol It probably helped that they had already been prepped in tunnel usage in my other coops. And that I had the TREAT bucket in hand for added bribery. tongue

As for our reasons for elevating the tunnel, Miry is right on almost all accounts. Cool

I have lots of ideas probably none are correct:
1   this is a 2 story coop and they sre already upstairs - sadly no, though we did vault the ceiling so maybe another level could possibly be added at a future date?
2   you wanted your pen to be back by the shady trees - YES!
3  you dont want your chooks scratching around your chocken housr foundations - YES!
4  the ground back there was more level -YES!
5  you wanted to see how good a carpenter your husband really eas - Exactly! Twisted Evil
6  you wanted to mentally stimulate your chickens - (and husband) Razz
7 all of the above!
And then there is the snow factor. Last year we had over 4 feet of the white stuff in the side yard, and too low of a tunnel could possibly fill up from underneath. I’m still in the process of making the tenplast sides and a top so snow can’t blow in, and the chickens will be protected from the elements even on the worst winter days.

Oh, and I wanted to be able to ride the lawnmower underneath. Rolling Eyes Embarassed

Also want to thank Tara for introducing me via pics to the wonders/usefulness of tenplast. cheers That stuff is pure gold!

Thank you both! Smile The real test is coming with the colder weather, but everything is working well so far.
