Is this a APA and ABA sanctioned show??
and just wondering there are a few Bantam that are approved in the ABA but have not been accepted into the APA yet

So lets say you have a Mottled OEGB that wins Best of Variety is it done in the show and cant Take Best of breed and possible Higher Title. The Mottled OEGB is in the ABA but is not a APA Variety

Appway wWe as judges use both standards at shows that are sancationed by both the APA/ABA if lets say we view the mottled OEG as BV we can make that same bird best of breed ABA but will also have to pick a best of breed APA.

There are many shows that Callducks or East Indies are Ch. Bantam over the bantam poultry when this happens we also pick a Ch. Bantam APA as in the APA the ducks only compete in the waterfowl classes and do not come up against the poultry till picking Show Champions. It happens quite abit and just recently at the National I judged at. We did the L.F Champions and then went on to bantams where we picked the Rosecomb as Ch, Bantam and the Modern Res. Ch. We then went and did waterfowl Champions where the Bantam East Indie was Ch. Waterfowl and the Callduck was Reserve. We then had to go and compare the Indie to the Rosecomb and the Rosecomb was deemed to be Ch. Bantam.

The Indie was Res. Champion Bantam ABA as we thought him better than the Modern and he went on to be Res. Show Champion but because in the APA the Duck does not compete with the Chickens and such we had to pick a Res. Champion Bantam APA which was the Modern Game
The paper work for each club reflects this.

So if your mottled OEG were Best of Breed and went on to be Champion Bantam it would be Champion Bantam ABA and a Plymouth Rock was Reserve Ch. Bantam the Rock would be Ch. Bantam APA and when getting to best in show if the mottled was Show Champion it would be ABA but could not be APA show champion as the color is not recongized by the APA and say the Rock was Res. Show Champion then it would also be show champion APA and Res. Show Champion ABA. It rarely gets this complicated as most of the lesser varieties also usually suffer from lack of breed type and are works in progress.

So we judges are not just pretty faces out there so to speak lol Smile but we do have to think a bit from time to time but having a good clerk helps too!!

Hope I put this in a way that is understandable!

Just wondering about booking a hotel for the show, are there some that have offered special rates for us?

We have Days Inn at 99. and Motel 6 at 75. You have to phone to book since it is just these 2 sister hotels offering this rate.these hotels are the closest to the Westerner. If you go online you can see what each hotel offers before you book

Advice - If you want the CHB discount you have to call the hotel. Do not book your room online or you will not get the discount.

The start of October, I checked online to see what rooms were available at The Days Inn. Saw there were rooms and called and was told that they were booked up for that weekend. However, when I told the receptionist that I was showing at CHB, immediately I was told that rooms were available. She then explained to say that the rooms for CHB were pulled and block and do not show up online. Better to call and ask.

When I called the Days Inn this morning they did not have any rooms left of those blocked off for CHB. They did still have rooms available and were willing to honor the the CHB rate. But I wouldn't wait too long to book or there might not be room at the Inn clown

You know you ought to be there! Sure you cant make it Eliza?

We got our room booked now, you had to be fairly firm about the $99 rate and then they were happy to honour it, first just wanted to give you the westerner rate which is a bit more!

No, sadly, I have back spasms so can walk and lie on the floor but not sit. I can't make the drive unless I get a hearse or ambulance to take me. Not a great time for a trip! But I wouldn't need a room, I could just be propped in a corner like a broom!

I'd so love to see you all but I'll be busy weaning this year's calves.

I really need to make a decision on what birds to bring to the show. I've been putting it off since I know I wont have the space to bring everything I'd like to, or the time to bath and prepare them all. I think this is partly your fault, KRL...I was thinking about the loads of lovely birds you brought to the show last year! What fun! Laughing

What blows my mind k.r.l. is how in Gordon did you manage to prep all those birds you brought. What was the count last year? 60? I just have 12 and I'm like wondering if I'll have them all spa out in time.

I know what you mean Kathy about having a hard time to choose who to bring to the Show.
There are tons of promising young ones to choose from this year.

Toybarons I think it was 54 birds I entered last year... I am a tad crazy.
The only way I was able get that many birds ready for the show was thanks to a few good friends. We all get together and bring all our birds, then we make a assembly line and make a night or two to wash and prep all those birds. I think we washed over 100 total. Our record was 55 in one day, but they were mostly bantams.

We have learned a few tricks to save some time. Skip the blow drying by hand. We use a big kennel dryer to hang on the front side of the cage until they are half dry and then we leave the birds over night in a nice warm room and they are dry by morning.

We also found some large tubs with drains on them that work great for washing them. It makes draining wash tubs very easy.

Kennel dryer? Nice Very Happy

I would imagine that big dryer would help a lot. Those big fluffy Cochins are the worst! I spend 20 minutes or more with the blow dryer on each one, just to get the drying started. It takes several more hours or overnight to finish drying them all the way. Rolling Eyes
