I have my young birds in heated tractors. They can play in the grass during the day. They are not scratching or digging outside yet, but eating the odd bug and blade of grass. Is starter enough, or should they also be getting grit now. Does anyone feed additional supplements at this time?

definately give them grit. Even if they were not on grass, additional grit can improve their performance. just sprinkle a bit on their crumbles.

I use grit I pick up at the pet store for pet birds, sprinkled on the food like a little salt.

I free choice grit, usually by the time they are a week old, if not sooner. You certainly need to give them grit before they start eating lots of grass.
