These are called Achimedes but also known as The Resurrection plant, probably because you let them die back after blooming each year, dig up the corms and replant them and they bloom again.

A very beautiful plant that I inherited from my mother in law.

Beautiful plant! How refreshing to see something flowering happily in the winter, I can't wait for spring...

we usuallly repot them on Great Grandmas Birthday at the beginning of Feb, kind of a cool ongoing thing and helps remind me to do them. if you wait too long the corms start growing on their own, you can see the white end on the whole one there and if they get too long they will break off and like a potato plant it takes longer to get going again...
I love them...the fact that you can make more pots of them each year to share and also that you don't have the yearround commitment of a potted plant to keep alive, just for a few months!

Thanks for posting that. I got one as a gift last spring. It was beautiful. I would have never known how to re-plant them though if you hadn't posted that. My corms are much smaller than yours though. Perhaps it is because I stopped watering it a little before it was done blooming. They are crazy hardy plants and are absolutely beautiful. I am going to divide my bowlful of corms into 3 post this year and see how they do.

These are so interesting. That's beautiful -- kind of morningglory-ish flowers.

The corms do get bigger each year especially if they bloomed well, they really like a sunny spot..
