I have a little barred hen, who came to me as a black sexlink, which I don't think she is.

At seven months, she is smaller than the rest of the hens. She is half the size of the Black Copper Maran she came with, who is the same age.  She isn't like the Cuckoo Marans, whose barring is different, and who thud when they hit the ground in the morning.   She has bright yellow legs, and a small, light coloured comb.   She is starting to lay medium sized pinkish brown eggs.  She is very friendly, and will jump on my shoulder if the opportunity presents.

I've been looking at pictures to see if I can figure out what she is; she looks most like a small barred rock.  I'll post a pic when I get a decent one, and maybe someone can post an opinion.

Not a very fancy pic, but this is the little hen, devouring a cabbage with a young BCM.  Barred Rock?  Something else?  Heinz 57?  Her feet look a little dull in this pic, but they are quite yellow, and stand out from the others.   Opinions welcome. Very Happy

Don't know what she is crossed with, but she has a sort of rosecomb. Barred rocks don't have that.

She could be a Dominique pullet- they are smaller than Barred Rocks and have rose combs.

OK no rose comb there! If she lays brown eggs I'd guess hatchery barred rock, if she lays white eggs I'd say California Grey.

Small pinkish brown eggs.  She looks kind of round and sleek like barred rocks do.  Nice little chicken whatever she is.  Smile
