Came across this interesting little tidbit. With the recent outbreak in BC and all the talk about tracking livestock, on the FB ACE, there was a post about the Premises Identification (PID) System. It's been arounda few years here and most of us small owners really haven't paid much mind to it.

As of June 2014, it is no longer a mandatory program. From what I am reading, even if you own a small poultry flock, the Alberta government now requires that you apply for a PID number.

No biggie. As we are cattle producers, we have had a PID for years, and I added my chickens to it over a year ago when the first cases of ILT popped up in my region.

Flee to another province won't help for long as I suspect all of Canada will eventually have tracking programs in place.

I can see it being no big deal for a producer as tracking in one form or another has always been there. Tracking for producers whose business is livestock, I agree should be tracked.

However, I can't help but feel there is a way bigger picture and motive at work here. One that is meant to do away with a small stock holder who isn't in business but simply keeps livestock for their own personal use.

Something similar is posted on the door of our feedstore so I suspect it is about to become mandatory in British Columbia too. These things always make me really squeamish. But this is how the world is going. I doubt any province will be exempt.
