Hi there,
I put a late batch of eggs in the incubator with an abysmal result of 1 single lonely chick hatching out. I'm looking for a young chick, any breed or mix breed, standard or bantam, preferably a week old (maybe two) or less, to keep this little guy company. My only criteria would be that the parents of the chick have been disease free and the flock has been healthy. I live in the Ardrossan area, east of Edmonton, so someone close to the Edmonton area would be perfect. Anyone out there still crazy enough for be hatching and have an extra little fuzzball in the brooder????

thanks!!

I am in the same boat 'lilfarm. It's partly my fault. My son wanted a pet chick and popped a single egg in the incubator. Smart mother I am I told him a single chick would be too lonely, so he put in two more eggs. I figured 'Ok, should get two out of three.' NOPE. One Neutral

We could get together and solve each other's problems, but I am way down south by Lethbridge.

Good luck on your search and watch for my post coming up Very Happy

Good grief eh. Anyone else want to join the Lonely Chicks Club? Razz

Well silly me. Instead of disinfecting the incubator and putting it away at the beginning of August like I planned to.... I just had to throw a few eggs into the incubator for that 'one last small hatch'. Well, I got my small hatch all right. Mad

I managed to settle my little guy with a fake friend I made out of a clump of feathers and an elastic band. I also put a little mirror in the brooder but I think its the feathers that are giving him/her the most comfort. Luckily I did find a real friend for my little chickie who I will be picking up on Monday.

Good luck finding a friend for yours!!

2 years ago, we were in the same boat. Long story short, we kept the chick in the house until December when we slowly transitioned her to outside. In the meantime, she went everywhere (at home) with the kids. They played with her daily, and she attended nightly story times. This bird is the coolest, friendliest bird in the flock now. We love her to pieces! (She's an EE if that makes any difference). It may not be a bad thing to have your chick/s on it's own. Just a positive spin on the lonely chick club Very Happy

We also have a lonely chick.... sigh. We set 8 eggs and for one reason or another 7 of them quit developing at various stages, some very late! Wouldn't you know it's the pairing that is most important to us? I have made little fleece and fluffy buddies for the little lonely chick and we put mirrors in several spots around the brooder. Thankfully one of Fuzzy Little Friend's Millies decided on her own to do a late hatch and I will be picking up a couple of day old chicks tomorrow.

Happy to report that our lonely chick is no longer lonely. The tiny little Millie chicks have arrived and we have the makings of a lovely blended family. Orpington chick initially thought the Millie's toes were meal worms.... oops! Orp chick learned the hard way Millie's are feisty little beings. A good whack on the head ended that nonsense. I just checked on them and everyone is sleeping in a pile of adorable fluffiness. So cute!
