One chick that hatched a week ago has something wrong with its leg. At first it would get up, then sit down after a couple of steps. We were going to cull it but the next day it was getting around and eating and drinking. Its leg is still giving it problems. It has been keeping up with the mama and other five but is exhausted and not eating properly. It is half the size of the others now. I have picked it up to give it a rest every so often but it cheeps so much I end up giving it back to its mama. I have thought of bringing it in and putting it under a heat lamp and feeding it for the day and then back under the mom at night. If I let nature take its course it will probably die somehow in the next few days because it is getting weaker all the time. I can't bring myself to cull it because it seems to be fine so long as it is not trying to run like crazy. Do I interfere or not?

In my opinion you should intervene and pull the little guy. If you know in your heart it is days away from death you must. We are lucky that we are able to chose to let our charges end their lives with dignity (unlike with humans) and as hard as it is to you must reach within yourself to do what is right, after all you have taken on their care for the good, bad and ugly. To let the little try to keep on to certainly be found dead will make you feel worst in the end.
Just my opinion

Yep, I would cull it. It's kinder than letting it suffer or starve.

I was getting myself ready to do it but he is doing great today. Yesterday was cold and grey. Mama was on the move alot. Today is warm and sunny. I have been out checking on them about six times already. He is doing so much better. He is eating like he/she is making up for lost time. Yesterday he wouldn't eat anything unless she offered it but today he is pushing the other chicks out of the way to get at the food dish. I am making sure a dish of chick starter is near them at all times. Mama is much lazier today and spending time just basking in the warmth. Maybe he is going to make it after all. There is nothing that I can see that is visibly wrong with the leg except that they seem longer than normal. It just seems weak and gives out easily from time to time. He can still run pretty fast when he thinks he's getting lost. She goes back for him when he screams loud enough. For now I am just going to let it be.
