Our Pyr dog Ziggy diedthis spring at the age of 15 so we were looking for a pup, soon realized "working parents"has a very broad definition just like free range and natural.turned out a guy we know had 7 pb pups ready to go so we went for a tourto see them work. The pair control the parimiter and a 14 year old female stays with the flock. The male is smaller than some I've seen but is very athletic, can really motor. So,we chose a female, who seems to be fitting in well, smart but lonely, forgot what it was like to have a pup around,it's been 15 years.

Yes I agree that working parents is a very broad definition.
When we picked up our last pyranees we saw the parents and they ran free and guarded their 80 acres, and they knew their area and did a good job.
The akbash we picked up when we went there to get them the fellow had large shelters that the dogs were tied to, inside a large paige wire enclosure. They "guarded" by the noise they made they actually didn't seem to run free with the livestock at all.
But the akbash has figured things out and is a good guardian, helps that our pyranees was here to teach him as well.

Having a single pup is always hard, they seem so lonely but do seem to bond better, our two do a great job of guarding now and I don't think we would ever be without two again.

Good luck with your new baby, lots of fun ahead.
