So Where is everyone?

Has everyone found a new place to hang out? I don't get on often right now but when I do not much happening. Must be a new hang out I haven't been invited to?

It's spring. Everybody is getting ready for next winter.

Pretty much the same on every board I lurk.

Too busy working outside to be online! Can't rake and type at the same time.

Sneeze makes you blink and Summer is done. Have to get out there while you can.

OK, I'll say it.

Losing Uno, Coopslave and Tara really gutted this place.  If you look at the top 20 posters, those three are in the top 10.  Then, though we understand why, the message was this is firstly place for chicken chat and not necessarily off topic chatter.  

Unfortunately it was the off topic chatter that drove this place.  I feel our camaraderie may be damaged.

Yes, we are all out playing in our yards, but it became very quiet here while the snow was still on the ground. I suspect many are not necessarily comfortable coming here to make idle conversation.

Where did they go? I enjoyed their posts  

I think you may be right Sue!! I check this site all the time but don't post very often.

I check our forum every morning, and not really too much interesting anymore. I do read though, and make a comment if there is one to be made, but just nothing much to say. I agree, losing some of our very big posters has made it quite uninteresting for me. My thoughts, and just needed to say. And..too, it is coming to summer and really not many hours inside anymore to get on the computer. Still do enjoy to read and make a comment now and then. Have a beautiful day, CynthiaM.

I was coming back to add that Sweetened did start a homesteading forum (not wholly poultry focused) but, so far as I know, it is not exclusionary. I don't think anyone has been invited. She probably did not want to be seen as poaching. I only found it because I happened to spy it on Kijiji. If you like, I'll post a link. If not, I won't mention it again.

But there hasn't been much going on there recently either. I do think the time of year plays a role.

Well Tara left on her own, Coopslave felt unwelcome and Uno has all the right to come back now. I was simply making a point that I cannot police this forum and it is not idle chit chat I don't want, it was just some topics were much to volatile and didn't really need to be on the forum.
I am understanding the busy summertime season, I figured as Fowler has said that another forum was started, which is ok by me, no Fowler I do not need the link, thanks.

I am always here. I don't post much, but even in real life I don't really say all that much   I learn much from here though and often do that best by listening ( or in this case reading)

That said I am also busy. We kidded out 29 goat kids this spring for the first time ever. I have been struggling with my hatches. My son is failing math so I run him to the tutor and work with him on it every night after work, supper, housework and chores. Also I am trying to deal with his anger/ depression issues.

But I do come here - quietly.

All true, Hidden and no blame was meant or intended by my words. I believe all these events have led up to a different dynamic here. When things change, more things change. Whole dynamics change. And sometimes they change back...and sometimes they don't.

Tara and coopslave's leaving left a huge hole and deprived this forum of much knowledge.

I check in here often, but don't post much.

I know that I am terribly busy here, finally some good weather.....


But I also have never posted much either, I guess sometimes I don't feel comfortable or that I have anything to add. I am always here reading though, or using the search to see if I can find answers to questions before emailing people

I thought it was more quiet because it was a long winter and finally (!!!) some good enough weather to get caught up on some neglected chores??

I check in occasionally, but there isn't much happening here without the three mentioned by Sue.

I just figured we were all starting to spend more time outside! I find Facebook is quiet right now too. We have been very busy tending to the chicken with the laceration..... HAPPY MAY LONG WEEKEND FELLOW FEATHER FANCIERS!

I agree with Sue. I used to really enjoy the posts negative or otherwise. They were all informative, and I just went on to another post if it was something I didn't want to listen to. But when I had a problem, it was the three who are no longer here who always were there to assist. .. As well as others. But, recently I have posted things that I needed assistance with, and they just went unanswered for days....so I have gone elsewhere for advice.
I really liked this forum, but it is not the same...
it is what it is. Uno, Coopslave, Tara...and others who have also gone elsewhere...it is sad
I do still come back,,but maybe once every two weeks or so, not daily as I did before.

I guess it is always a bit difficult when folks leave (sort of like work, when co workers leave, a bit of a gap for awhile).

This is the normal ebb and flow of collections of people. Perhaps it's a bit more obvious online, as we check in every day.

Things will pick up again; and for those of you who don't post very often, and if you feel comfortable, go ahead and try a few.
We all have something to share, some experiences that others can learn from. YOU will be surprised.

Building friendships and relationships is about how much self-disclosure we are willing to do (deciding what, when and to whom, and how much to disclose personal thoughts and feelings). It's a reciprocal process, and self disclosure changes in breadth and depth and affects how relationships progress. So you naturally feel closer to those who have engaged with you in the process.

For me, I can't say I miss anyone's specific posts -- there is always something to learn from someone, have a conversation with or just simply point out some occurrence in everyday happenings.

I am more inclined to believe the lack of activity here is the time of year and the effort required to get gardens ready, get livestock buildings in shape, plan holidays, get repairs to equipment done, monitor new babies, plan and plant gardens and crops -- the list is quite possibly endless   

Two factors, for me:

First was Uno's banning (albeit temporary), and the pain that that caused;
Second was the recent change in ACE policies, so that censorship there is hugely reduced.

I completely support the right of the site's owner to determine what is appropriate for posting, and to police the site as deemed necessary.
Each individual finds the forum(s) that feel right for them. Some like a more rigorously enforced standard of decorum and disclosure; some less. Some like to pontificate; others like to argue. Some prefer to observe and ponder.
We go where we feel comfortable and welcome.

Very true. Under the new Admn, the rules of ACE have become much more logical. The dreaded forbidden posting of other forums is gone. I'm quite certain Hidden herself would be welcome (considering the last Admin ridiculously banned her for simply starting this forum).

This is a very nice forum make no mistake, different from others yes...more like a small village.

For the one that come and go it is normal life, the one we like or dislike do not matter, things must move forward And this forum is not dying with all the Cindy's, Piet or Hedda etc

It's busy out and lots to do. And because you asked, I will be honest... I feel that sometimes here my posts are hijacked, it's more exhausting than fun, and I'm often finding myself posting elsewhere now...I lurk here and converse by pm or email.

Hidden would be welcomed back with open arms on ACE should she chose to contact an admin there.

But, Jayme, I am sure the hurt you experienced in the past on ACE still cuts very deeply. It is a shame we cannot right past wrongs, only try to make things better for the future.
