Hey Everyone,

I have a few PureBred Ridley Bronze Toms for sale and two Crosses *Sorry No Hens*

All healthy, hardy and great quality toms. From my personal line I have been breeding for the past few years.
Proven natural breeders, very friendly, tame and good mannered, non aggressive. Other than some ruffed up tail feathers they are some good looking boys.

I have chosen my breeding tom(s) and would like to offer up the rest to those whom are interested in my lines, a great way to introduce new blood into your own breedings.

Here are some pics I took here a few mins ago

Good Day Everyone, Important Update...... I need these Turkey Toms gone as soon as possible. Sad I had a visit today from the County's bylaw office informing myself that there had been a noise complaint. I agree with them, 10 Toms gobbling on and off all day is a lot, I can't even sneeze outside without them responding LOL. So I have decided to comply and now I have been given a very short time frame to resolve the matter. Need Gone ASAP. $40.00 OBO Local pick up only! Can meet at hiway 21 Esso on Twp Rd 510. Thank you.

Nice lokking Birds Jonny but not one of the breeds I have
I thought you lived on a Farm/Ranch so what happens when the roosters crow you get in trouble for that also
That is a great price infact Cheap I am surprised no one has snatched them up
I have 15 toms so I agree they can be loud but I love the sound and if they are quite I hit the wood on the porch rail so they answer LOL

I live on an acreage in a subdivision. We are spaced out for the most part among our neighbours, there are others that have horses, and a few with chickens so livestock in the area is nothing new. When we moved into the area, no one at the time had chickens, now there are 6 families in the area who have them.  Very Happy  This is the first ever noise complaint that I have ever received and not sure whom it came from.

When the county bylaw officer stopped by it was kind of funny cause he saw me, and shouted to get my attention, well that got the toms gobbling, and the more he would shout so I could hear him, the more the toms would gobble.

I finally walked over to him and asked who he was and why he was on our property. Anytime I would talk, the toms would Gobble lol, he would talk, they'd gobble. All the while there are roosters crowing and hens screaming the eggs song. So pretty much he came at the worst possible time, I hadn't fed anyone yet so they were all rather loud. LOL

He was very nice and thought it was cool that I did what I did, but at the same time we couldn't even talk until I started to fill feeders and topped up a few waterers. After that it was a bit quieter and then we were able to talk.

All he said is that there has been a noise complaint, the person who whined... err I mean reported me specifically mentioned Turkeys gobbling non stop, apparently at all hours of day and night.. I laughed at that and he just frowned at me.
I showed him I had them up for sale on Kijiji, Facebook, etc and he could care less, all he said was that I need to reduce the noise or I will face penalties. I never asked what kind of penalty but I imagine he was referring to disturbing the peace, so a fine of some sorts. I just kept smiling and said yes sir, I will do my best to re-home them right away.

Heck I even offered him one for free, told him to come back in a few hours and I would have one ready to go for the table! Nope, unless it was from the supermarket he doesn't trust it, "Not interested" and he insisted he would pass.

More or less he explained that there was an obvious noise concern, and I would agree they are very loud at times. See I enjoy the sound of turkeys getting rowdy over the sound of sirens or someone's car stereo bass thumping and rattling, to me a gang of gobbling toms is a much more pleasing sound.

I was told I have a few days to have them gone, another complaint will result in a visit from Animal control, which I thought was a little extreme, but I could see why, to an outsider it must have looked out of control. Then he told me that I am over the limit, that I have too many birds on the property, so many kilograms of "livestock" per acre. I brought up the bylaws on my Iphone and showed him that I am well within the allowed limit. I kind of got a little snarky and I told him that I was aware of the bylaws. I argued that my operation has been ongoing before the bylaws were revised in August 2013. That I don't do this for meat, I do this for conservation.  Cool

Honestly not sure where the discussion went from there, but he didn't say much more after that, might have been the fact that I Soap boxed about Heritage breeds and the importance they play in modern days... LOL During my rant, things got relatively quite, the birds were calmer I think he could see that I was trying to do the right thing.
He did comment on my light sussex and said they were the nicest looking chickens I had there, and he left with a smile on his face.

Bah....!

I don't want to give them away, but almost getting to that point. I could cull them but they are my pets Smile

LOL

You handled it well Jonny Better than most
I also enjoy the sounds of turkeys compared to the sounds of the city that people cause.
I am sure you threw him for a loop when you brought the Bylaws up and told him you knew them well
It is funny someone complained thought that was the whole Idea to not live in the city
Have you ever Noticed when someone that does not know turkeys and they yell and the turkeys gobble they yell louder and louder
Hope you find them homes

We will be going to that Auction on the 27th of this month by Pigeon Lake, could bring them here to Olds, if you could get them right away.   If Jonny could ask

the By-Law Officer if he could wait until then????  They are too beautiful to butcher & then the minute they are gone everyone will need one.

If Jonny thinks they will all fit in out truck box, with a chicken coop?  Shortbox Dodge 4x4.

Could you contact him?

Thanks everyone,

The whole thing is kind of funny in a way, I could have solved the problem awhile back when I realized last fall I had so many toms.  Shocked  But, being foolish we decided to over winter the whole lot to choose from the group whom we wanted to use for future breedings, that was a few weeks back  Twisted Evil  We, being tsamis and myself.

Over the past few months, I spent numerous hours hanging out with them, countless feedings and many moments spent just enjoying their company, their antics I got accustom to it being part of my routine. I mean how often can one say that they take their Turkeys for a walk.  Laughing

I have been trying to re-home them for a while now, and have had lots of interest in the Toms but I just can't afford to continue to feed them. The 8 toms alone were going through approx 25kg of feed a day Shocked That is a lot of feed and a lot of $ over the past few months. I was reloading their food bin once a day during the colder days. Now that spring is here, they are eating less, 25kg is lasting 2 1/2 days, need to refill by the 3rd day.

After much thought and consideration, tsamis and I have made the choice to get them processed, we are going to take them into PLPP. (Pigeon lake Poultry Processors)

Actually looking forwards to it, I saw Sue's post and was super impressed on the results  Very Happy

I have processed my own turkeys before, and personally not a fan of it, it's a fair amount of work, and I have a hard time finding bags big enough to store a whole bird. also interested in how much they will weight out to.

I think it will be a nice treat to have a professionally processed bird for the table. I look forwards to dining on something that I have raised, I know what has gone into it.

Cheers,

Jonny
